Victory Church Mission and Vision
Our vision is to operate as a training center for God's people to be taught His Word to effectively minister, proclaim, and demonstrate the ministry of Jesus Christ; to serve as a house of breakthrough, restoration, and reconciliation, promoting the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ; to reach and minister to the brokenness of mankind; to embrace the many diverse families and situations that cross our threshold; to serve as leaders and guides towards a deeper relationship with God through Jesus Christ enabling those in need to realize and choose a better way of life.
Our mission is to reach the local neighborhoods and communities, our city, state and ultimately the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ; make disciples of Jesus Christ; create an inspiring Christian environment to each member, affiliate and visitor of our Church; provide ministerial support, training and enrichment for the whole family.
Victory Church History
In 1994, the Lord Jesus Christ inspired Pastor Joann P. Murrill to heed the call of God to be an undershepherd for His people. On the fourth Sunday in September 1994, along with her husband Elder Oliver Jeff Murrill, their four children and six other charter members, Pastor Murrill opened the doors of Victory, a Full Gospel, Interdenominational Ministry. The initial location was a leased building at 108 Hampton Street.
God impressed upon Pastor Murrill to lead a ministry that would be a healing center dealing with the human needs of sin, sickness and spiritual death. From its inception, Victory had become a home of breakthrough, restoration, and reconciliation for many. God challenged her to make available a training center for His sons (and daughters) to be trained and taught His Word in order to minister, proclaim, and effectively demonstrate the ministry of Jesus Christ.
In August of 1997, God allowed Pastor and Elder Murrill to meet Bishop Nathaniel and Pastor Valerie Holcomb of the Christian House of Prayer, Copperas Cove, Texas. There was a witness in their spirits and it was evident that a connection was inevitable. Later, Victory Church became a member of Covenant Connections International under the leadership of Bishop Holcomb.
As church membership grew, Pastor Murrill patiently awaited the Lord's direction regarding when and where to move. A Word from the Lord was spoken through Bishop Holcomb entitled "From Here to There, When It's Time to Move, Move." This timely Word served as confirmation for Pastor Murrill and was the catalyst to a move and purchase of a sanctuary. With God's divine hand, Victory was able to purchase prime property in the center of Sumter's downtown area. The property, over 22,000 square feet, was actually the old McClellan's, a five and dime type of store. In August 1998, Pastor Murrill physically marched the enthused Victory congregation (about 150 strong) to a new location at 2 South Main Street.
The Lord continued moving on behalf of His people as Victory Church purchased seven acres of land on HWY 441/Patriot Parkway in February of 2002. Later, in July of 2004, Victory moved to its current location on 601 Pitts Road in Sumter, SC. The building, formerly known as "The Lion's Den", rests on 7 acres of Victory property. Today, God's kingdom-minded people walk in the boldness of the Lord making preparations for expansion of the current edifice. Just as the Children of Israel were inspired in Nehemiah 2:18, so are we. After receiving the Word of the Lord, they said, "Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work."
VICTORY CHURCH IS A MEMBER OF COVENANT CONNECTIONS INTERNATIONAL (CCI)
Bishop Nathaniel and Pastor Valerie Holcomb founded CCI in an effort to produce communication and unity among the covenant churches, ministers, and evangelists. CCI makes an eternal difference in the lives of thousands through unity, prayer, and financial support. The members of CCI are Pastors, Evangelists, and Missionaries from the Christian House of Prayer and others around the world, coming together to extend the goal of "Reaching the World with the Gospel". http://www.chop.org
